Meal Ministry
Delicious Meals: Blessed and Delivered to our Homebound Parishioners
The Saint Columbkille Meal Ministry prepares and delivers meals to homebound parishioners. Delicious, home-style meals are made with love using quality ingredients - and always include a dessert! It is our hope that through the Meal Ministry, we can provide a smile and a feeling of belonging, along with a nutritious meal, to those who are no longer able to gather in person with their church family.
WHO WE ARE
The Saint Columbkille Meal Ministry is a free service provided by Saint Columbkille Parish. Most of the work is accomplished by parish volunteers who generously offer their time and talents to support their fellow parishioners. The success of the ministry is dependent on these hard-working volunteers as well as donations and grants received from generous members of our community.
THE MEALS
Meals will be delivered on the 2nd and 4th Friday of every month between 4:30 – 5:00 p.m. Each delivery will include two complete meals: one warm, ready-to-eat meal, and one freezer meal to save for another day.
Someone needs to be at the home to receive the meals at the appropriate time each delivery day. Since the meals are perishable and must be kept at specific temperatures, we are unable to leave the meals outside for pick up.
A monthly menu indicating the meals to be delivered that month will be provided. Everyone will receive the same meal on any given delivery day.
Please note: it is imperative that all food allergies and special diets be communicated with the program director. Special diets will be considered, however, it may not be possible to accommodate all dietary restrictions and preferences.
VOLUNTEER
It’s easy to get involved! Volunteers are always needed on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month.
If you are able to spare a couple hours every month or just a few hours occasionally, we need you! Volunteer in any way that fits your schedule. There are a wide variety of opportunities from which to choose:
- Kitchen worker. Help prepare food and pack-up meals for delivery. Kitchen workers are needed for 1 ½ hour shifts on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month. The first shift is 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. and the second shift is 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. Regular and occasional volunteers are welcome.
- Driver. Use your own vehicle to deliver meals on a regular route. Choose to be scheduled once per month, twice per month, or occasionally. Drivers report to St. Columbkille at 4:15 p.m. on delivery days to pick up their meals. Routes should take a half hour to 45 minutes to complete. Drivers sometimes bring along a “hopper” to take meals from the car to the door. Children are welcome to accompany an adult on deliveries.
- Bakers. Of course, dessert is included with our meals so help from our parish bakers is a must! Bake in your own home and drop-off at the St. Columbkille rectory office on select Fridays between 8:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
A Sign-Up Genius will be available at the beginning of each month to Volunteer for the Meal Ministry.
