Through the Sacrament of Baptism a child is received into the life of Christ and becomes a member of the Catholic Church. We encourage parents to have their child baptized within the first few months after birth. Parents presenting a first child for Baptism are asked to attend a program which explains the meaning and importance of this Sacrament in the Church. Parents are asked to call the rectory to register for this class. The Sacrament of Baptism is typically celebrated each Sunday, after the last Mass.
The role of godparent is extremely important as one who promises before God to be a faith-filled, practicing role model for the child or adult now and in the future. They must be at least 16 years of age and have received the Sacraments of Baptism, First Eucharist, and Confirmation. Godparents must be registered in a parish, participate in Mass weekly and receive the Sacraments regularly. If they are married they must be in a valid marriage. Each godparent or sponsor is required to obtain a sponsor certificate from his or her own parish. If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact the rectory to speak with a priest.
Adults who wish to present themselves for baptism may call Fr. Michael Petkosek at the Parish Office (216-524-1987) regarding the R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) process.
